Manet: Journaling.
Establish an Artist Journal, which is different from a sketchbook used just for drawing.
An Artist Journal has sketches, plus word sketches, lyrics, poems, notes on philosophy, methods, reflections, and or photographs; it is a place for 'my favorite things.'
Do a series of visual studies and word sketching on some of your favorite objects.
Taking all of your experience, create a still life with "a few of my favorite things."
Notice how working on something personal affects you.
Monet: Paint a Series
Look at his different series to gain insights.
Set up a still life, divide the canvas into 4 quadrants.
Paint the still life 4 times yet under different lighting conditions.
Repeating the same subject under different lighting is to gain mastery over it.
Note in your Journal what the changes were and why.
Sisley: Copying, Using, Making
Select a high rez image.
Copy a Sisley landscape, repeat his surface integrity as closely as possible.
Use a Sisley landscape, 'copy' the scene, change the scene or surface integrity, yet use some of the elements.
Design a landscape inspired by the elements you resonated with.
