Coming to know your subject more deeply and intimately so as to express what touched you of its extraordinary essence through your sketches and painting.

Draw an apple – from your memory
Draw an apple – set up a still life – just look - sketch it
Draw the apple – now see something meaningful in it - draw your response to that something
Draw the apple - after you touched it, smelled it, draw that sensation
Draw the apple – after you bit into it, taste it, hear its crunch – draw that sensation
